The new all-aluminum 5.7L V8 has 381HP and 401ft/lbs of torque. That's more than any of the gas trucks out now, including the big ol' macho Hemi. There's an interesting review on PBB: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542159My brother in law works at the new plant in San Antonio where they're built and he got to thrash one on their test track... lots of smoke was involved, he even blew a tire. He says this truck is just BAD @$$! Its still only a 1/2-ton truck though for now...

I've read recently in Autoweek or something like that about the Tundra being offered in a configuration to handle a one ton payload in the bed. Don't know what the configuration is yet.

I really, really, really want one for a work truck-but they are just to pretty and nice to abuse
Maybe in 5 years I can find a somewhat used one and retire my T100 to a true trailrig?

They must have detuned the heck out of that motor. That's only 66.84 HP/L
The 3.5 V6 in the Camry/Rav4 is 76.85 HP/L... a 5.7 at that ratio would be 438HP!
Of course, that's on 87 octane... bet it tops 400HP on premium.
0-60 6.3 and 1/4Mile of 14.8.... and it weights 5600lbs.

So the answer is wait for a wreck, peel out the parts and put them on a T? Hmm

Supposed rumor on the HP was to give it enough to top the american brands. As they catch up, the motor is (rumored) to be more than adequate to get above 450hp reliable. Read this on TundraSolutions (which I don't usually read, but was thinking about and FJ and they have more FJ users there).

Swap a 4.7L for a 5.7L - I'm thinking this could be a nice heart transplant.

does the 5.7L use a timing belt or chain? Its a stroked lexus 4.6L V8, but I couldn't find any info if the 4.6 uses a belt or chain.
