I usually go around Mar/April, tho' this year it's been relatively mild. This snow is dry enough for snow caves if you set your ventilation up right. Also don't hafta worry about bears and skeeters.

Good grouse huntin' right now; the daylight is starting to come back.

Yeah, cold without snow just sux. Might torch off a couple more brushpiles this weekend too. Hmm...brats n beer...

That was from new years weekend at the Underhills. Located in NW Martin county. That would be one heck of a drive East on Hwy 70 for ya . Heres some links for you:
A few pics on the local board

He was having lots of "zoning" problems with his events and the county gov't. So now instead of mud events he has plant sales. You just need a 4x4/ATV to get to the plants to look at them

The red dot shows location.

I've been winter camping, though it has been a long time. We skiied into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area up by the Canadian Border, made a quinzee hut (not an igloo, but similar). It wasn't too bad to sleep in, considering it was below zero outside.

Right now we don't have enough snow to make a snowball, let alone a quinzee. But the cold has arrived, high temps in the teens for the next week are predicted. At least the lake ice will be safely thick now...

i love winter camping. used to go all the time up in the high peaks area of the adirondacks when i was going to school up there. we actually have a trip in the planning stages, now that i am back in NY. winter is much better for the high peaks. no bugs, no heat, no humidity, and NO PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to go snow camping alot .... Kondikes with the Boy Scouts in North Eastern Ohio were always a blast .... I would love to go again sometime.

But winter this year in Mansfield, Ohio, seems much more like spring .... we havn't had snow to speak of or cold .... just rain, rain and more rain. I live just half a mile or so from the Black Fork of the Mohican River and while it's normally just little more than a small creek last week it looked like the Ohio River !!!!

Still hoping for some snow as that's why I bought my Montero in the first place !!!!!!!!!!
