Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I have had this trooper for one week now and since we have ice and snow on the road from the highway to the house I stop at the foot of the hill and put it in 4 wheel. This afternoon I went into town and all of a sudden the right front end started making a terrible noise like something spinning but when I stopped to put it back in 4 wheel there was a clunking noise and then it stopped. Is it possible that the 4 wheel drive wasn't totally disengaged and something is going out on it? There was also a burning smell from the right frontwheel area as well.

I am assuming from your description that you have automatic hubs. If so, your analysis seems pretty good.

Yes Jim, I just talked with the man I bought it from (he owns a used car/wrecker service, etc) and apparently one of the hubs was sticking so they greased it but not both sides! And since iw was 22 below last night it must have been sticking half in and half out! So he told me to bring it to the shop tomorrow and they would fix it. Now my only concern is if I did any damage to the hub and they try to just pack it full of grease and the problem isn't fixed...we'll see! I think when I get the bugs worked out and give this unit a little tlc it will be a fine 4 wheeler for me. Thanks for the response!

If the Auto hub is damaged and you don't replace them with manual ones (the recommended option), PM or email me. I have my old ones from when I swapped mine out and you can have them for the cost of shipping.
