I'd add that plugs do two things...hold in compression and ignite a/f mix. When comparing a new platinum against a new copper or splitfire or "rapid fire" the results are all the same. However just like replacing any worn out part, comparing a wasted plug performance with a new one can be very noticable. Thus the myth that a different "kind" of plug can make a difference. Not so much.

Can certain styles resist oil fouling and can a hotter range help keep carbon off? Maybe slightly.

I prefer standard Autolite plugs for everything except applications that call for an exotic plug (LS1 vette for example).
