It seems that you have the same problem that i had. It turns out that the vaccuum advance mechanisms were corroded and needed to be cleaned. Now the truck has more power and starts right up every time. I can thank kevin for that fix. I would have never figured it out myself.

Well after some checking this morning i did a vacuum check on the depression chamber with my vac tester and it will not hold a vacuum AT ALL. It slightly moves open about a 1/4 inch if i pump the vac tester as fast as i can. What a waste of 425.00. These carbs are junk and i wish i could use the weber instead. I guess i will keep exchanging them untill i get a good one. Also i did verify the vac tester was holding a solid vacuum before checking the depression chamber. I also put the crank at TDC and pulled the valve cover and the distributor was on the money for alignment. I will repost results when the second carb gets here this week.

You can get depression chamber only from the dealer around $100. Might be worth the money not to have to go thur the whole mess again plus shipping.

TommyM, I am in Clovis. All, I just got the new carb off and checked the depression chamber again. It wont hold anything. I checked the old carb and it will open all the way if i keep pumping the vac tester. It leaks down realy slow (about 10 seconds)but it does open all the way with little vacuum. Should i try and use the old depression chamber on the new carb?

If that's your only option. The materials are 21 years old and subject to lots of underhood heat. It's amazing they last this long.

Ok, i replaced the depression chamber from the old carb and put it on the new one. I also and got the timing on track. I cranked it up and let it warm up at idle all the way and watched the choken open all the way up. Then I used a flash light to look down the throat of the carb and gave it full throttle. The secondary opened up perfectly but at around 4000 RPM it started to load up like it was getting to much fuel and it was spitting fuel out the top of the carb. I also just checked number 1 cyl for comp and it was at 130 LBS. I havent checked the rest of them as i am calling it a day. The weber is looking so good right now. I am really getting frustrated with this issue.

You won't like it if you put the weber on and it is still AFU. I had found an early non feedback carb that I ran on mine, I would chase one of them down first.
