You should be removing the mill scale before you weld, no? Besides that I think it looks very strong and I really like the design. Another thing you could try in the future is putting the tabs horizontally so you could get away with thinner material and still hold up for side pulls.

Should I?? I haven't been. It'd be a lot more crucial if you were using GMAW instead of FCAW... but, yes, everything should be taken down to clean bare metal before welding (including eliminating mill scale). I'm enjoying this thread a lot, keep up the good work!

There only 3/4" I always thought the ARB style tabs were too small, They can bend if you pull from an angle. So the ARB's are thnner? I'm planning on 3/4" but was wondering if it would be thick enough. It sounds like I don't need to worry about it though. BTW, it looks good --Dan

Yeah, they are Like 1/4" I aways thought they were too thin. But I tend to over build sometimes

The ARB points really aren't designed for winching or towing. Those are tie-down points for transport on ferries, etc. The installation instructions for the ARB, at least for the 1st Gen, explicitly instruct you to replace the stock tow hook and make provision for doing so.
