Getting the Wheeling Fever
While driving in about 5 inches of fresh snow, I noticed violent wheelhop in the rear of my 94 4-Runner. The front seemed to be doing o.k., but the rear of the car was really jumping up & down. Bad shocks? 78,000 miles on this unit. If shocks are bad, may as well put on all new ones. Whats a good brand to use?

Need a Spot
How old are the rear springs? If orig. They may be soft allowing axle wrap. Is it lifted if so was it lifted using lift blocks?? If so these can act like a lever to increase wrap big time.Look into these then replace shocks.

Body Damage is Cool
(94 4Runner) no blocks, coils <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />, if it is hard pack snow the rear can bounce a bit if its digging in that 5" of snow...however it should be minimal with good shocks.

Were you in 4wheel drive, that could be the front end digging in the snow, happens when your front is grabbing but not going.

I've noticed my 99 runners front anitlock brakes kicking in
almost abnormally.

I just replaced my stock front struts and realized both sides shock upper bushings were loose and sloshing around.

So I'm guessing on loose gravel and snow when I stopped short my front wheels would hop causing the antilock to kick in.

Same problem with my 2001 chevy pickup. 4 bad shocks and my antilock kicked in as I was braking and hitting a bump in the road.

Thinking about it, it was hard packed snow. I was in 4-wheel drive. Couldn't feel any hopping thru the steering wheel but my tool box near the tailgate was all shook up.

Mudrunner
sounds a lot like shocks. hows the tire wear? and chopping or scaloping on the rear tires? thats usally a dead giveaway for bad shocks or stuts, also check the coils and it wouldnt be a bad idea to repleace them with the shock

toyotas look good with body damage
