Getting the Wheeling Fever

This is kind of an old bump but the saga continues. I replaced all the plugs wires rotor and cap and that seemed to fix the problem. It turns out it only fixed they symptoms as I have a cylinder that isn't firing. To top it off I pulled the plugs again today and the number one was covered in black. (these are only a couple weeks old) the other ones didn't look like this.

The fill cap and breather had brown sludge

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4017/imga0072da6.jpg

and last but not least the overflow bottle is completly foamy.

Blown HG?

WHERE DO YOU LIVE??? Is the oil stick showing overfill?
Did you install a new plug to see if IT WOULD FIRE?
The miosture in the cap is common this time of the year up north! Most folks don't take the cap off and FIND IT!
It is due to short trips and condensation forming in the top of the engine... It has happened to many vehicles for many years without bad effects. Once the engine reaches 205* for a while the moisture evaporates and no harm has been done.
THE TWO PROBLEMS are not connected.
Work on the sparky and forget about the moisture...unless you have an extra couple of quarts in the oil pan.

I'm down in San Antonio. The only reason I think it's an HG is because all the foam and crap looking liquid in the overflow bottle.

This is a new set of plugs. The second I installed them, the jeep ran like a champ. It's starting to miss again and it seems like it's fouling the first plug.

The dipstick looks fine, IE not overfilled.

Ok in Santone you do NOT need to paint the underside of a vehicle... ever!
If the coolant and the oil level are still ok then get in that ride and drive it up here and back... all the moisture will be gone when you arrive home.
How long you had that vehicle? Where did it come from?
As for the plug pull it and see if it is oily again. If so I'd be looking into changing the cap and at least THAT wire and a new plug.. then see what happens. If it does it again. ohboy! I'd be thinking of pulling the head and looking at the valve guide seal... If that is good then I might just pull that piston and have a look at it. With the head off you could look at cylinder wear and compare the piston top to the other five.
How many miles are on that ride?
Why did you tune it?

I don't mean to be the messenger of bad news here but the problem you are describing is EXACTLY what happened when my 2.5 blew. She was running rough at idle when I went to gas her up....so I opened the hood, and when I went to check the oil there were puffs of smoke (water vapor) out of the dipstick tube. I went to check the air filter and it was pretty soaked in oil as well as the bottom of the air filter box. After a teardown it was found that my #4 cylinder broke both rings and scored the skirt. That's where all of the blowby oil was coming from.

Oh, and I couldn't get that #4 cylinder to fire for anything. Compression was very low also.

Hmm where to start. I've had the jeep about 7 years. The motor is fairly new. I did the tune up because I beleived the original problem was just a fouled up plug. The rotor and cap were in baaaad shape so the change was instant. The jeep ran fine for a week. It overheated once but I thought it was from having low coolent. then a couple days ago the #1 was missing again. The overflow bottle has a tone of foamy stuff in it. I think I'm beyond replacing that plug as it's brand new.

Here's my theory, I have a bad head gasket and it's flooding the #1 with coolent, just enough to keep it from firing by fouling the plug. I'm gonna tear it apart today and will let you know what I see but thanks for the help thus far.

Yeah! Get back to us with whatever you think you find in there... Even a few closeup photos would be nice.

I'm doing the prep work to start tearing it apart and noticed a little problem in the radiator. I'm no expert but i'm pretty sure I didn't buy the "foaming coolant"

Now that is some ugly stuff ain't it? Put in combination with a wet plug and hopefully it is only a head gasket. I personally have never had a bad gasket that did not cause the radiator to puke it's guts out! Others have said they had a similiar problem to yours and it was in fact a head gasket.
The sparky is what troubles me..

After having to help my wife shop all day (I did buy me some new sockets universals and extensions)

I finally got around to the compression test

Here's the result

Cyl / 1st Compression / max compression

1 / 90 / 120
2 / 90 / 123
3 / 89 / 119
4 / 89 / 121
5 / 94 / 149
6 / 120 / 154

Might as well make this a play by play:

Power steering pump removed:

Radiator Drained. Notice the superb brown colored coolant:

It was at this point that my air compressor died. I'm not sure what's wrong with it but it won't turn on. In addition I remembered from the last time I had this apart that most of the intake is metric.

I broke 3 vacume hoses, they are going to be a pita to replace.

and now it's dinner time.
