I learned from an autocrosser running SCCA stuff. Sometimes it doesn't matter the car you drive. This guy had a stroked Austin Healey Sprite, little car about 1500 pounds, 130hp, stick and a 440-six pack Satellite, big gigantor car. He'd run them at similar times through the slalom, but the Satellite was always a little faster.

One of my favorite pictures of a solid axle 4x4 involves traversing a trench deep enough that I could not see over the sides. The 4x4 still has all tires planted and the body is level to the ground surface. The photo was near Truckhaven Hills, the trench was a 6-foot deep strom drain canal, and the vehicle was a 1978 CJ-5 with super flexy suspension and 35" tires on 1-ton axles. One of our Forum member bought a prepared Toyota truck, in much the same fashion, because the cost/time of fixing a Montero to handle the same terrain was unsuitable to his needs. No problem here.

I was following Landriader with my v6 Raider with 32s and could not keep up with him. LR's truck is not the cleanest, most pretty, or the best there is out there. It is pretty bad . It just works. Rides great on the ^^^^^^^^^ gravel roads in Uwharrie. It is one fo the most badass raiders out there.

Q why dont you post up some pics of yours and we can compare.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
No need for me to post pictures. With the exception of slightly larger than stock tires (235-85 16), and a winch on the front, my Raider is STOCK, STOCK, STOCK! Just look at any picture of a black 2 door gen1 and you could be looking at mine.

I like my "stealth" raider. I like it when - after traveling a road with 5 feet of snow on it - the kid in the jacked up Toyota with big tires that followed my tracks in says "I thought it would be someone with bigger tires".

Note that I already agreed that Landraiders rig would undoubtedly outperform mine off road. But, I just can't see a solid front axle cornering as well as a double A arm independent front suspension. Even with a vehicle like the gen 1 RX7's, which arguably had one of the best controlled solid REAR axles, you could still feel the effects of the solid axle when cornering in bumpy conditions.

Finally, I'm glad that no one will call my rig "bad ass". I don't want to intimidate anyone.

PS - I'm not saying that Landraider wants to intimidate people, but when his Raider garners the description of "bad ass" it's first impression seems to be one of intimidation.
