OK, really need some advice.
My 92 Trooper 3.2 V6 Auto gets about..let's see...300kms (186miles) to a full tank city, and maybe about 400kms (248miles) highway if I'm lucky. Seriously, it's like the fuel's leaking out when I park or something (it isn't!).
The engine runs like a top (251,00 kms and going strong; barely broken in!), pulls like a rocket, starts on a dime, never pushes blue (knock on wood).
Anyway, here's what I've done so far:
-searched the forum -changed the O2 sensor -replaced all fluids and filters -kept the tired well inflated
I also tried driving more gently, but it made almost no difference: hard driving (with the Power drive engaged) or soft, it's all the same.
Any ideas what to try next? (aside from selling the old girl?)

its not how the mileage is calculated. You forgot to tell us how many gallons of fuel, on average, you are putting into the tank. I guess you are putting about 15 gallons. Actually, its not that bad for a trooper, especially for a lifted one. Any ideas what to try next? (aside from selling the old girl?) now try to calculate the difference between the trade-in price of your trooper, and a price of a good new SUV, and calculate how much gas you can buy for the difference.

It depends on the size of your tank. When I put my fuel cell in , I lost 3 gallons of capacity. With my trooper and the 3.4 with 33's , and lifted , I am getting about 230 KM on average to the tank , and its 19 gallons instead of 22.I haven't done a lot of highway yet , so not sure what I am averaging for highway , but I would say its not a hole lot more then what I am getting in city.I think it was around the 70 mark for a full fill on my tank if I remember correctly.I usualy fill it again before it goes under 1/4 now.

Check to see if you don't have a dragging brake or a sticking parking brake. Jack the rear end up and see if it turns easliy, do teh same for the front. Make sure you chock the wheels and have it in neutral.
You may have a colapsed rubber brake line.

That's for a full tank, which on all Troopers (as far as I know) is 83 litres or about 22.5 gallons.
I'll try jacking her up and make sure the wheels spin easily, but it does coast fine on the roads (downhill).
Also, my check engine light comes on when I'm driving on the highway, goes off in city driving. Next step is to try and read the blinking codes, if I can figure that out.
This might be painfully obvious, but how can I tell whether mine's a DOHC or SOHC?

If your coil packs are on the front of the engine, it is a SOHC, if rear DOHC. Don't ask me why...

If you have larger than stock tires, you'l need to factor in the difference in rolling diameter. This could help your calculations and maybe even gain a few miles per gallon.Should make you feel better atleast <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Did they make a DOHC in 92?
Yeah, make sure you are getting the right fudge factor for your tire height.

That's for a full tank, which on all Troopers (as far as I know) is 83 litres or about 22.5 gallons. no way its for a full tank. There is no way for a normal vehicle to consume a full tank. After you consume a full tank, you are left stranded on a road, with vehicle motionless and you have to call a towing. I doubt that you do this every time. I doubt that you run you vehicle until it stops motionless. You always keep some gas in your tank to reach a gas station. What i was asking: "how much gas do you have to pump into you tank, on average basis, after you went through your usual 'tankful' miles ?" I suppose its about 15-16 gallons, which is fine.

Write down your mileage next time you fill up. Then drive till you need to fill up again. Write down your mileage AND the gallons you put in. Figure out how many miles you've gone, then divide that by the # of gallons My trooper averages around 17 mpg. I tend to keep 31's on it. I havent lifted it yet, but I plan to. I can go like 380 miles to a full tank. When I first got it, I went 419 and BARELY made it to the gas station LOL When I filled it, it took 20.6 gallons or something and according to my book, its only a 21 gallon tank...
