OVERALL OFF ROADING THE SOHC IS A BETTER ENG,AS IT PRODUCES MORE TORQUE AT A LOWER RPM THAN THE DOHC, MUCH EASIER TO DRIVE ESP WITH MANUAL TRANS , AN AUTO WORKS VERY WELL , ON THE HI WAY THE DOHC IS FAR AND AWAY AS FAR AS THE ACCELARATION GOES IN THE UPPER RPM RANGES ,I AM REFERING ONLY TO THE 95 AND EARLIER ENGS , WHICH IS THE BETTER ENG ?, THE DOHC HAS LESS MOVING PARTS THAN THE SOHC BE CAUSE OF THE CYL HEAD DESIGN, NO ROCKER ARMS ,NO ROCKER SHAFTS , DIFF DESIGN HYD LIFTERS , HAS CAM FOLLOWERS , BUT IT ALLSO HAS TWO TIMING CHAINS, ONE TIMING BELT AND THREE TENSIONERS ONE FOR EACH CHAIN AND ONE FOR THE BELT , THE DOHC SEEMS TO RUN LONGER BUT THAT ISNT TO SAY THE SOHC OR THE DOHC IS SUPERIOR , DEPENDS ON THE MAINTANENCE ,THEY ARE BOTH VERY DURABLE ENGS , THE 96-97 SOHC ENGS MADE THE SAME AMOUNT OF POWER AS THE EARLY DOHC ENG BUT AT A LOWER RPM AND IT MADE FOR A VERY NICE DRIVING HEAVY TRUCK ..
