Depends on what you consider 20-year old info - standard DOT 3 is still used in most vehicles today. To answer the question put forth, DOT 4 is a synthetic DOT 3 that has a higher boiling point and absorbs slightly less water. Most, depending on the manufacturer, are compatible with DOT 3. DOT 5 is a silicone-base fluid used mainly in motorcycles and very high temp brake systems that is incompatible with DOT 3. Hope this helps <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
