Not sure if this belongs in Off Topic or not, butà
IÆd like to mount a holster somewhere in my Æ98, any suggestions / pics?
My carry is a FN .40, so it fits in a med. frame holster, such as a Colt Govt. size frame.

take it from everyday cops that wear the holster on them.
i dont remember seeing vehicle mounted holsters other than for long guns.
you may want to check out paddle type holsters, like uncle mikes or the ones i have, fobus. they make it easy to mount on and off you.

Take a look at the Fobus "roto-tilt" or some variation of that. They make a car mount for it so you could put it directly beneath your keys or a little further down near your knee. It's very adjustable and I have heard very good reviews of it for car use.

Might I ask as not a gun owner or the age of legally owning a gun, what is the point of carrying it around? I mean, its not like you go around shooting things, is it just for protection or looks or what? Seems to be a little more extra weight to carry around.

Protection. I hope I will never have to use it in that capacity. But, in the event that I do, I hope it is within my reach. I usually just conceal on myself or have it in the center console. Definitely not for looks. The only time someone is going to see my weapon is if they are threatening my life.

So what's the law on shooting someone in self defense? Say you shoot the guy and kill him, what happens? What happens if you just injure them?

Ever heard the expression, "I would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6." If it is a case of self defense, you have every right in the world to protect yourself. I keep several weapons on hand at ALL times and if people really knew what went on in this world, they would too. As for concealment in your vehicle, I use a hard plastic Uncle Mikes' form holster that is mounted underneath my driver's seat on the right hand side for quick access. It is secure and out of the way. Most theives look under the seats for valuables and the holster is mounted so that you would have to be looking for it to find it. It works pretty good!

The laws in AZ are pretty liberal about carrying. I have also had a CCW since it's inception here.
Directly, it is for protection. My wife carries as well. It's not a macho thing (for me anyhow), just a strong sense of self-preservation. I try very hard to downplay the fact that I carry and whenever possible I try to maintain concealment. Both the wife and I have had long conversations about the dreaded "what if" and we both hope to hell that it never happens.
Another factor is the number of law enforcement officers in my family (mother, brother, sister, 2 uncles). All too often we have heard stories regarding a situation where a well placed shot would save the life of a loved one. Of course, it is a double edged sword.
I personally feel that the folks who carry to be a bad ass are a bigger threat to my safety than an armed criminal...

So if you are able to drive away from a threat, but you shoot anyways and kill someone, you'll be charged with voluntary manslaughter. The only time this rule doesn't apply is in your own home, it's known as the Castle Doctrine.
If it is truly your absolute last resort and you shoot someone, ideally you shouldn't be charged with anything. But you might just have to decide whats worse -- the possibility of a jail term, or the possibility of you or a loved one being killed.
Luckily, everyone I know who carries is very clear headed. In the state of Florida, nobody holding a CCW has ever been convicted of injuring or killing someone with a gun. [ March 16, 2003, 05:22 PM: Message edited by: Yota_number3 ]
