you would have a better chance at finding a chrysler 8.25 that will bolt right in than a d 44 that will bolt in.
the d44 only has one spline more on the axel than the chrysler does. you should be able to find one fairly easily in a boneyard. the chrysler rear looks simular to the d 35 but instead of the cover being even all the way around a bit of the diff sticks out at the bottom of the cover. also it will have the chrysler pentastar on it instead of dana. and th axel tubes ar close to 3 " on the outside,wheras the 35 id 2.5 or so. i beleave the same options exsist for both the d 44 and the c8.25. so it is mainly a matter of which you find in a cherokee first.
