I think it depends on your intentions beyond just talking to a buddy on the trail.

For me, I know alot of times you're using it to simply chat between rigs either on the trail or driving to the trail.

Other times however, I need to get out of the rig and found it a pain in the behind to not be able to talk while out of my rig so I now use a portable hand held unit that's can easily be removed (<5 sec's?) and taken outside of the rig for use.
