hey guys, sorry bout the lame topic but i'm wanting to upgrade from my old Uniden to something more up to date. just wondering what you guys are using. i wrench for a trucking company and i've been getting offers for new CB's (unidens, cobras, galaxys) from some of our drivers but have yet to decide where to spend my $$$.
SAS88TOY, caged, lockered, Longfielded, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah!!!

I think it depends on your intentions beyond just talking to a buddy on the trail.
For me, I know alot of times you're using it to simply chat between rigs either on the trail or driving to the trail.
Other times however, I need to get out of the rig and found it a pain in the behind to not be able to talk while out of my rig so I now use a portable hand held unit that's can easily be removed (<5 sec's?) and taken outside of the rig for use.

I run the all in one cobra unit where there is just a little box thats like 2"x4 inches that sits under the seat and then the main unit just is where the mic is on a normal cb...I forget the model number but I like it. It does transmit quite a ways and I like the clean install that when I am not using it there isnt a radio in the dash/etc.
03 Montero XLS, OME 2"suspension lift,Full skid plates, Extended Diff/transfer breathers. 34 LTB's, Winch w/syn rope, Locked front/rear.

yeah i'd definately like something a little bit smaller than the average unit. i like the hand held option so if you(off-roader) could post pics, that would be cool.
hey icy, think you could find that model #? i'd like to see what you got. i'm even considering putting it in my 05 Tundra if it's something that won't take up too much space or look out of place in a fairly new rig.

This is the place and the model that I got. I recommend this place...had good prompt service from them and have been happy with the radio since. Cobra Radio

thanks for the link! i would definately throw that in my Tundra. alot more low profile than the norm.

I photoshopped it to show the 2 configurations. The top image shows it setup to go into the rig w/ 12V cigarette liter cord. Ya I like the low profile of this Cobra unit just because I dont like the look of the cb in the dash. Plus it saves having to go through all the mounting of it. I had a 12V supply in the armrest that I tapped into to run it and it works great. Plus I am guessing...not 100% on this but it should be stronger signal than the handheld. I've got an old Galaxy President that's been modified up to about 100watts (one of the "import" models). Big, heavy, powerful, and reliable. I've talked skip out to 500mi. I'm shopping for a cheap handheld for out of the truck times, but since I drive a Mitsu, I don't have to get out very often....

I have a cheap radio shack in dash. I would really like a unit that does CB, FRS and weather. No such luck finding that unit <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
