I am super happy with my Cobra, 18WXST. Has weather, is DIN sized so it fits in the dash, has front-mounted speaker and mic jack, so it can be heard and used in the dash.

Here's a shot, installed in my truck:

Phil, not to get off topic, but your heater controls are like nothing I've ever seen in a Mitsubishi before.

<continue hijack> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Heater controls are the highline Japanese domestic market variety. Set your temp on the digital readout, and its maintained automatically. Heater or AC cycles up/down/on/off as needed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Sweet. Righthand drive? Well, I'm a lefty, so I thought it'd be cool to shift with my left hand for a change. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Indicating with the right hand? Not so cool... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

<end hijack>

As far as antennae <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I've used/broken many many, and finally settled on the K40. It has a base and 5 foot stainless whip. It comes with the hood lip mount, but can be used with optional magmount, mirror mount, etc. A half turn separates the load coil and antenna from the base. Excellent range, durable, lifetime warranty. Love it.

How reliable are Midlands?

The FRS models are pretty cheap (way cheaper than Motorolas) because Midland has a local manufacturing facility. They also export to the U.S. smile

I've always had good luck with Midlands, except when I messed with them.
