Let me add some information:

Dates are not set, I'm thinking early October how does that sit with everyone? I'm open for suggestions.

as I wrote before, September would be better. But I am OK with early October, if you Mitsu guys let me in.

From San Jose it's 500 miles to the start, 7-8 hours.

the trail can be driven from west to east. This is about 430 miles to the trail start from Bay Area.

It's a multi-day trip.

The most interesting part can be driven in just two days. We can arrive on Friday night, sleep in the camp, then drive till the Sunday afternoon.

I have my old GPS track. So, the trail finding (Soda Lake crossing, etc) is not a problem.

For safety the only bail out point will be in the middle where we pass over the paved road.

Almost everywhere, we will be within 1 hour range of a good road. If there will be sick or injured or bored people, we will be able to deliver them quickly to the place they need.

My wife gets car sick unless she is driving. Wives and girlfriends are more than welcome. This trip is more "Safari" than hard core 4x4 so it's a great introduction.

this is true. The trail is easy and relatively high-speed, if your vehicle does not mind the prerunner-style driving. There are some optional side rock trips.

I'll be able to come if you guys will set a date in advance, to make necessary personal adjustments.

One more reason why I prefer September: on the October the 1st, the South Coyote Trail in Anza Borrego is opening after the summer closure, and I am planning to go there this year also, in October. Both trails are great (although, they are very different) and I do not want to miss either.
