Well after pulling the bottom of the pan off and cleaning and digging around and doing 2 gear-oil changes, I finally found 2 teeth that were from the 5th OD counter-shaft gears... How nice!.. NOT!
To make a long story short- I'm tired and don't want to chance being out in the middle of the desert with a locked up drivetrain like what happened back up on Miller Jeep Trail back in '01 when I broke it the first time. Lucky I was 40miles away from home then.
Plus I haven't even started to pack. According to my transmission guy, there's a OD gear out there with more teeth/higher teeth count. Does this = more strength?? hmmm gonna look into this.. but this is the LAST TIME I want to pull this tranny out. 4th time's a charm.
You guys have a good time, and if problems arrise, I always have "Lucky" for help...

Our "Isuzu" group is starting as scheduled, Friday night 6-7PM at Afton Canyon campground. We are going to have 2-3 Isuzus, 1-2 Monteros and 1 FJ Cruiser. Saturday night we will be either on 17th miles point, or on Mid Hills campground. Sunday night we will be either on Caruthers Canyon "unofficial" campground, or on the Mitchell cavern camp. I suppose that we may meet your group somewhere in the middle. I called the rangers, they told me that the Soda Lake is passable, but with some difficulties. The Soda Lake is the only my concern along the road. Do not forget to sign the "Mojave Road mailbox" on the road. Can't ask for better weather, warm during the day, cool sleeping weather for night. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Friday: Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. Friday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s. Saturday: Sunny. Highs in the mid 80s. Saturday Night: Mostly clear. Lows in the mid 50s. Sunday: Sunny.
