Mine are leaking pretty bad. What's a common cause of this? I'd guess they leak at the fittings but I won't be able to get the truck up in the air until this afternoon and I'd like to get it fixed today. Anyone dealt with this? I did a search but found nothing specific. If I remember correctly the lines are connected with banjo fittings and copper washers/gaskets. Am I right? Thanks in advance.

I would expect the hoses are getting porous. They are a dealer item. Check your transmission hoses when you are in there, they have metal pipes that rust through. Generic hose can work with them. I would not expect rust to be a major issue for your area.

And if the dealer can't get them, or want's half a new car price for them, take them to a hydraulic hose shop and they'll cut off the hose and crimp, and crimp on new hoses on the old fittings, but spec hose for oil.

The banjo fittings are less likely to leak than the hose part.
Mitsubishiparts.net has them for 46 dollars each.

I would not expect rust to be a major issue for your area. They use an incredible amount of salt on the roads here -- my Raider is almost white with the stuff -- I can hear the sound of thousands of tiny salt teeth chewing the Raider into rust as I walk by it.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

My lines are leaking bad too. Way bad. Like a quart every 500miles.
Question, will the bolts go back in the holes without the banjo fittings? As in I take the hoses off so I dont have to keep buying oil? Atleast the engine gets fresh oil all the time, and the oil keeps the rust away. Will a axle drain plug go in those holes?
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

They are a M16x1.5 thread, I am thinking the axle drains might be M18, I could well be wrong. You could make a spacer the height of the banjo to seal up the bolts when the hoses are removed. You will also need to remove the oil thermostat, back out it's fitting remove the element and place it in a baggy and replace the cover.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't get a chance to get it up on the rack today. Tomorrow I'll clean everything up and then watch it leak. As far as the rust situation, it's actually pretty rusty. 1987Raider is right - I love Kentucky, but no one can drive in the snow here so they salt us to death, esp. in Louisville. We get an inch of snow and everyone pisses their pants. It's kind of ridiculous.

Here is what I have done. Mine were leaking very bad, the hoses were bad. The banjo fittings were not leaking. To get by, I cut the metal lines off and tapped out and screwed a plug in to the banjo fittings and put one of the modified banjo fittings where each oil cooler line was. Did not leak at all. I found a monty in the bone yard that had dry lines and installed them. They are dry. The dealer wanted about $70 per line. I was thinking about swaging the end of the metal lines and using transmission line hoses with two hose clamps at each fitting. I bet it would work just fine.
