Just curious how many of you out there have got the skills.

Do you weld?

Personally I dont weld. I really want to learn how and do some of my own fabbing but dont really have the time at the moment. You might also mention what time of welding you do if you do weld.

I welded one summer...built antenna towers. I got to where I could lay very nice beads, every time...the old timers said I was a "natural" . But, someone always set everything up for me, and all I did was lay the metal...I doubt I'd know where to begin if I had to do it myself.

I have a cheesy harbor freight 110v welder that I'm learning on. Im getting better, but I still suck

I've used a Lincoln stick welder at work and did much better with it.

I didn't see the most appropriate choice up there for me so I just picked the second one. I used to weld (almost 30 years ago) and I was okay at it, but I haven't done any welding since.

I've been periodically thinking about taking some community college courses for welding to both brush-up on skills and newer technology.

Hmm...
Need more options on skill level!

I weld OK for what I want, and others seem happy enough with it to buy the stuff, so I must be doing something right...

Learned through the community college/night classes.
Took more than one season of classes all with the same instructor.

Seems to take a year or so before you get things all working together for ya, including design/prep/technique/cleanup/grind/finish/etc.

Unfortunately, there's no cheap way into this hobby.
For good, reproducable results, on a part-time/occaisional welding, it really helps to have good equipment: gloves, auto-helmet, grinder with all the bits, metal working tools, and hopefully a gas shielded MIG capable of 1/4" steel in a single pass.
That's been my (Miller) experience...

..and really work on the finishing. A 15amp 5" grinder is your friend!

More than one choice is applicable. I do solder like nobody's business. And I don't weld but would like to learn in the next couple years.

I weld, but I could use some more experience.

Been welding for around 25 years and done a lot of book reading in addition to the experience.. I checked pro.. [Linked Image] primarily for self but have done some for pay work.. primarily stick AC/DC and MIG... got two welders, trying to 'xplain to the wife why I NEED a third one.. itching to get some TIG experience..

I use a MIG in my part time work when we have a fabrication project to do.. Also got a plasma cutter there..

Most of my vehicle projects are on my web site (which I need to update)..

Last vehicle project was my rear skids..
