Here is my setup, on the rear of the flatdeck goes a pair of incandescent oval tail light.

On the camper itself will have a pair of 4¿ round led tail light.

So when camper is mounted on the truck, should I run the led tail light from my trailer wiring already hooked to the tail lights?

or should I tap the wires directly to the original tail light wiring?

As for the LED lights, how do I know how much current limiting device should I install? What do they look like?

if the camper is going to be removable it would be best to make it plug into the trailer receptacle.

if you plan on towing a trailer in addition to the camper, your best bet would be to add another plug, possibly up front, into which you can run power, and all of the lights.

Perhaps these LED tail-lights already have the current limiting resistor built in. Are there any instructions in the box?

if you are using the "trucklite" style tail lights then all you have to do is plug them in and go.

they do however make LED bulbs that can replace bulbs like the 1157 and such.

these however require special flashers as they dont heat up the same as a conventional bulb.

I think you are fine just plugging them straight in. Those lights only draw 240 milliamps according to the website. I would just wire these right in parallel with the standard lights.

Hi, i have been trying to wire up the STOP/TAIL/TURN of a pair of oval lights to replace my stock tail light.

I want to only use a pair of oval lights to do all turn/brake/tail.

My problem is that I just can't keep my right flasher flashing while i'm also stepping on the brake. (and of course, my right green flasher indicator on the combo meter also light up when i'm stepping on the brake)

(fyi, the way it's wired right now is that the turn and brake both use the same brighter bulb, and tail use the dimmer bulb)

Any clue?
Do I really need to add a second pair of lights dedicated to turning only to solve my problem?

btw, my backup wire gets no current either when switch to reverse? WHy?

Since Toyota uses a double filament bulb, you will probably have to use a seperate set of lights for the blinkers.

How much room do you have under the deck, could you run a set of lights from a car under there? For the flatbed on My '91 I used a set of Mazda tailights. I had to re-arrange the plugs so they would plug into my factory harness, but everything works.

The back-up lights should work, providing everything is plugged into the tranny. Remember the ignition has to be on for the lights to light up.

Thanks for the reply. I figure the only way to fix is to add a second pair of light. I will do that by incorporating my other pair of 4" round led lights into the rear bumper.

About the backup lights, I really have no clue now why the red backup wires are not getting current all of a sudden (after i completely cut off the stock wiring harness) when i'm in reverse, no matter with engine on/off.


Does stock backup setup stop work if 1 of 2 bulbs burnout or something?

I don't think they stop if one bulb is out.

If they were working before you cut the harness, you could have grounded out and blown the fuse. You might also check the oem wiring for burn marks from welding.
