if stock on your truck you had one bulb for tail and brake and a seperate bulb for blinker then you will have too add another light or get a trailer light converter.

Hoppy makes them and some others. you can get them at any major (or minor) parts store or trailer store.

you can probably even get them at U-Haul

they are easy to wire in and will let you run your single light

Ha, you are right on the bet. I've shorted my wires while connecting the tail lights & burn my 10A gauge fuse. No wonder why I couldn't get my backup light turn on!

Trailer light converter? Wait, that will work? I have one sitting... Problem is that I don't know how to properly wire it up. Mine has 4 connections at the plug type. What colour is what? Where can I find a trailer converter wiring diagram on the net?

Anyway, here is the collection of the parts.

(I also went to Nida-core in Barrie, Canada and got a sheet of 4x8 of 16mm plain for $69usd! This honeycomb sheet is pretty neat. I will epoxy an AL sheet on the top and a 3mm sheet of laminated plywood on the bottom. This will go for the roof top.)

Speaking of epoxy, where can I get big cheap, big quantity, good epoxy/resin?

you could do a google search to try and come up with a wiring diagram.

it should say on your little converter box though.

if you dont find anything i'll do another search later.

but you know how it goes.

lunch time's over

here's a few pictures of some different trailer light converters.

most say on them what wires go where.

rule of thumb.

green is right turn

yellow is left turn

brown is tail

white is ground

normally the brake light is the same as the blinker and it will just send juice through those green and yellow wires.

in order to combine your seperate blinker and tail you will need to use one of these

on one side there are either

A: all wires

B: just the green and yellow.

on the recieving end you will notice that there is one extra wire.

a red one.

this can be any odd color but in this case it is red.

you hook your brake light on the truck side to the red wire and the blinkers to the green and yellow and it combines it in the box

you will need to mount the box on one side of the truck
(preferably the side that the wires are coming down frame)
and run one wire, normally the green one, over to the right side of the truck for the right blinker/brake.

pretty simple really.

you would probably be able to figure it out without me wasting my time typing this! but hey its fun right?

Thanks a lot for the trailer wiring. I've figure it out eventually and then realize that the electronic inside my converter box doesn't work...

Anyway, I gave up on fixing it & am going with a second pair of lights option.

Just made this tonight, a plate with tail & backup light mounted for the rear bumper i'm going to make soon (although i still can't figure out how i should make the bumper...)

Here's another build-up on Yotatech that I've been following, might be able to get some good ideas there for your fab work/planning...

Thanks, i've been following on that too.

Anyway, i started cutting the camper's frame lately. Ya, working with aluminium is really fun! Hands are SO much cleaner than steel! (except that it's -15?c outside!)

Question, what's the downside of using a 4.5" zipdisc (hand grinder) on notching aluminium tubing, at areas that are subject to tig welding?

It's called a project for a reason, otherwise it would be called a job!

Nice layout so far; keep it comin'.

I see on the SuperCamper blog the salvage has begun.
