Hi!

Finally got started welding the camper itself today. Note that it's my first time tig welding aluminium, i'm pretty happy with my result afterall.

What I use for my AL 6061-T6 1/8" tubings:

Miller Syncrowave 250, Argon, AL 4043 2.4mm filler rod, Zirtung 2.4mm electrode, amperage set at 125Amps, gas at 17cfh, stainless steel brush that only touches aluminium, and oh, my helmet.

This is about 4hrs of work today:

This is the layout. It's basic, just to keep it light & simple.

-Top sleeps 2 with slide-out bed, 3' extension

-Bench on the right sleep 1, or 2 when bench slide-out over the walkway.

-Skis/fishing rod/dirty stuff storage compartment under the bench (where milk crates are).
Accessible by 2 outside lockable storage doors + inside by opening the 2 covers of the bench sit.

-31"x18" Window by the rear right corner (non-shown)

-The removable washing plastic tub at the rear left corner is used as a shower/bucket-toilet base

-Shower hose is manually attached to the outlet of the sink tap when in use, and curtain will be used to enclose the area)

-A white cabinet sits right next to the tub, with a sink/tap on top

-a table sits on top of the white cabinet, all the way to the front wall, also with a pivoting rear end that serves as the wall btwn shower & sink or an extension of the table over the tub

-Front of the cabinet under the table area will be empty to accommodate a 32"x18"x18" plastic storage box

-Rear door will get a window through it

-Front slider window enable access to the cab. (Yes, I'm thin enough!)

Finally, all the welding is now done. I ran out of shop time with the tig machine, so I had to use a mig spool gun with 4043 Al Wire to finish up the roof & additional reinforcement frame work. btw, i really hate to mig aluminum! Tig is the only way to go!

The total camper framework is about 170lbs, that's including the roof & the 4 legs i've made for the camper to stand on its own.

The flatdeck framework, with rear bumper, including wood is about estimated @ 300lbs.

As u see the roof is a sheet of 3mm plywood + 16mm nidacore honeycomb sheet. There will be a sheet of 20g Al sheet over the top. Yes, i can stand right in the middle of the roof!

Tomorrow is putting up the wall & siding.
