I have no problem maintaining freeway speeds, as long as I'm going downhill or on the flats. Once pointed uphill, and in combination with 33" tires and about 500 pounds of tool boxes and stuff, I am in third gear about 4 grand to maintain some semblance of freeway speed on hills. When the truck was empty last month, i.e. no tools or boxes, I could used 4th gear on the steeper hills, but the engine was taching about 2800 rpm at the top...almost downshift time. With the stock tire size and tools, I have the same experience. My 33" tire and alloy rim weigh less than the stock chromie and tire size, about 14 pounds less. FWIW.

I used Les' idea of gentle persuasion to put the new pump in. I haven't run the truck long enough while the air temp is warm to see if my carb gasket has resealed, only thing I couldn't get the same day. Stupid water in the carb...
