Nothing dark about that, except that 4x4wire doesn't have as much action in their Landcruiser forum. Does it have the 1FZFE 4.5L inline six? I've heard that it's like an oversized 2JZ Supra motor, with bulletproof internals and huge potential for power upgrades.

Ya, it does have the 1FZ. What amazes me about that motor is how HUGE the displacement is compared to how little h.p. it makes. The compression ratio is pretty low too, so I can imagine it's seriously under tuned and would love forced induction.

However, it is a torque monster. Not that you necessarily feel it in a 6000lb rig with an auto tranny. While it only tops out at about 275 ft/lbs of torque, it makes around 250 of it just off idle! And maintains a steady climb to 275, before dropping off around 3800 rpm. That's getting close to V-8 torque out of a inline 6. Of course, it is a HUGE inline six at 4.5 liters.

I think the engine's biggest asset is not power or torque and certainly not fuel effeciency, but it's plain 'ol 22RE like bulletproofness. Those things regularly attain 300K miles with little or no issues. Even though it's a much newer design, I'm reminded that basically the 22RE and 1FZ have one thing in common. Large displacement for their class with low output. I'm sure that contributes significantly to their longevity.
