Nice Brian! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

I don't think I could've justified a Cruiser, but the little 99 Runner I picked up this summer works, esp now that I have an 80# Retriever mutt instead of my little ol' Corgie for a camping partner.

Nice feelin' huh?

Shame I can't get my mitts on your truck; would be EXCELLENT for the roads less travelled up here. I hope you find it a good home. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

beautiful looking rig. But I'll be very disappointed if you stop at 285's. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> Well, considering it's intended purpose, I think 33s will work just nicely. Remember, I went back to 33s from 35s on my truck. Also, I'm trying avoid single digit mpg numbers. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> And I don't really want to regear the thing. That would be mucho buckos.

Those late model 4Runners are awesome and at Dirty Harry's suggestion, I actually looked at a few and for a short while debated on getting one of those instead. But I settled on the Cruiser because of the cargo carrying ability, room and solid axles. Also, I planned on spending less than #10K. And 1996 and later 4Runners in good shape will reasonable miles were going for a more than that. Of course I went over my initital budget, but not by much.

I think if I were buying an expendition rig that ALSO served as a daily driver, the 1996-2002 4Runner would be at the top of my list.

Congrats. Betcha somebody you know will buy the 89. MY question is, what does that mean for your screen name? Brian95-luxo-ute-guy-this-thing-gets-worse-mileage-than-the-89...

That works. Mods, make that change for our buddy Brian. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I think that the 285s are a good choice. If you want to go to 35s on an 80 you have to spend a lot more money to get things right (gearing, CV front driveshaft, caster correction). As soon as I got mine I put an OME lift on it with 285 MT/Rs and a Bull Bar and never regretted it.

Now owning AZRain's 98 4Runner I can tell you that you might the right choice for the type of trips you like to take Brian. The 4Runner feels more sporty and gets better mileage and is FUN going fast in the dirt, but the Cruiser is just beefier all around and is the best expedition vehicle platform I have ever seen.

2" OME and 305's is popular also.

I don't really see any advantage to the wider tires though. They will track worse, be heavier, and not be as good in slippery conditions like mud, rain, snow, and ice.

Possibly true, but some of that is also a matter of personal preference/driving style.

Never mind screen name, my ENTIRE web domain an thousands of pages are based off of "brian894x4". <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Way too much to change and besides, most pages are pretty high up on the search engine lists and I don't want to mess with that. So, looks like I'm stuck with it.

One good thing about the fuel economy is that I had to use super fuel in the truck to keep it from pinging. No amount of intake cleaner, fuel injection cleaner, ever seemed to work. But I can use regular with the LC, which should just about even out the cost.....

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />...uh ya that's it.
