I think that the 285s are a good choice. If you want to go to 35s on an 80 you have to spend a lot more money to get things right (gearing, CV front driveshaft, caster correction). As soon as I got mine I put an OME lift on it with 285 MT/Rs and a Bull Bar and never regretted it.

Now owning AZRain's 98 4Runner I can tell you that you might the right choice for the type of trips you like to take Brian. The 4Runner feels more sporty and gets better mileage and is FUN going fast in the dirt, but the Cruiser is just beefier all around and is the best expedition vehicle platform I have ever seen.
