When mine did that I intially put the old cover back on but ordered a new timing cover (I left the head on that time). About 2 years later when doing a HG replacement a slapped a new Timing cover on there. Think it cost about $50. I think the shavings from the chain-on-cover will be tiny, hopefully stuck to the drain magnet. The timing chain guide pieces are in the bottom of the pan though!!
