Yes, there is an interlock that the brake light switch
controls.
When you press the brake pedal, a solenoid near the shifter
removes a block and allows the shifter to move.
When you depress the brake pedal, you should be able to hear
the solenoid click.
To get to the solenoid, you have to take up the shifter console. If I'm not mistaken, the solenoid is on the drivers
side of shifter assembly.

Just be aware of the possible problem that can result from
removing or disabling this.
The transmission can be removed from park without the key
in the ignition and without the brake pedal being depressed.
