I ordered up a set of 5.29's from PORC the other day. I'm going to install them myself. (unless someone local wants to help) I plan on re-using the bearings if they check out OK. I ordered up 2 crush sleeves to do the install. I've read through multiple gear installs on the web, and plan on following those closely. I was planning on bringing the pinions to work and swapping pinions since I don't have a press at home, but do at work.
I just don't know how to accurately read the gear pattern using the paint. If I set it up and post a pic of the pattern, could you guys tell me "add a shim" or whatever, and then come back with another pic? I want to get them setup right. Thanks!

Sure. What I remember from doing this is that I needed to shim the pinion more than once to get it right so you might acually just do the set up at entirely at work. You have to have it all assembled to check the pattern and will have to re-shim if it is off.
The pattern needs to be centered on the teeth like in the pictures. I can't remember if biased outwards means moving the pinion deeper or shallower of if that is affected by the backlash though. I'm sure you can find that out somewhere or else you'll know real quick when you shim it and it moves accordingly.
Good luck!

I am sure Zuk will help with the pattern check. I was under the impression the solid sleeves were better than the crush sleeve?

I've heard of people preferring both, so for simplicity I chose the crush.

I ordered Yukon's from PORC. Got them today. Just wanted to know what the numbers meant on the side...I know Yukon's can be any number of gears....here's the numbers
Pinion
YG-TV6-529 337 2.460
Ring
337 A6 Yg-TV6-529 304
What's that all mean? Did I get a good gear?

the 304 at the end means it's a nice gear. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
