Hmmm, I was playing around with my shifter and it would seem that the tranny actual shifts into gear fine if the shifter is manipulated a bit differently ..... could this mean that maybe all I need is a shifter assembly ?

Your probrably right .... what started out as cheap, personal, winter transportation ... and then turned into a mini-obsesion ... has started to turn into a money pit

OH Well .... I've made so many repairs and upgrades to my Monty .... I guess it's too late to turn back now

Hey, I've got a good $5k into my SWB. But it is nearly all rebuilt, and there are few like it. Sure there are still pleny of things like interior and such. But the vast majority of the hard / wear parts are new now. You couldn't anything close to what it is (or will be if ever done!) for even 4x that amount.

I consider it money wisely spent. Just ask my wife...

hmmm .... tonight I heard the big shriek noise (that fasteddie mentioned) and my transmission "left the building". I was on the road abut 50 miles from home when I find myself with ONLY 4th gear ! No 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th or reverse .... just fourth. I did make it to my Father-in-Laws house .... but I'm pretty sure I smoked the clutch now as well.

So ... it's tranny time. ... jeepdriver ... I'm interested ... I'll PM you within the next few days.

As for the money well spent ... I do really like my Montero. It still needs some stuff done to it ... not to mention the tranny now. But to this point in time it has a completely rebuilt (to factory specs) suspension, brakes, fresh head gasket job and a whole slew of of things ... so I'm not gonna quit now ! I really expected to have all this trouble ... after all my monty is pushing 200k real hard.

2k invested into my LWB so far, going to be putting more into it very soon. I can't tell you how much of a smile comes over my face when people stare, or ask what it is and where they can get one . I believe the 2k spent so far (that total including the purchase) is money well spent. I mean hell I could of bought something else sure, but would it bring me so much joy? Hell No.

Ohyea, the money going into it very soon is Trans related as well, but the trans in it is meant for a 4cyl not a V6 .

I'd have the transmission from jeepdriver in an instant. Score. 500 bucks is worth every penny!! Put that in, keep your old one, and rebuild it. Have it ready for 100k miles when your new one goes out!!
