Starter Solenoid? #786682 02/05/07 09:29 PM

I have a problem with the starter lately. Turn the key and you can hear the starter spinning but its not engaging the flywheel. I'm guessing the starter solenoid is out. If I put in a new starter will that do the trick or is it in the relay on the passenger fender?

Thanks
Josh

JS sounds like the bendix is just not popping out to engage the flywheel. The starter is obviously being energized by the starter solonoid if you can hear it spin or whir. Sounds like you need a new starter. I've replaced mine twice. I think it was like 90$ at Advance.

The bendex has a sort of clutch in it. And it will get dirty and stick closed. If you have an extra hour you can take the starter apart and clean up the thing. You might get it to working again. Used to be one could purchase a bendix seperatly from the starer itself...but I have not seen one for years.
