Does the oil pressure sender(guage type) from a 84-88 six cylinder work on a 4cyl. engine? I realize the six was only in the last year or two. TIA
Hand me that crowbar.

I can't answer your question, but I'm pretty sure I recall that there were two part numbers for 1989-1995 trucks, but it had to do with matching up the right sending unit to the same guage panel, since two suppliers made gauge panels for Toyota and apparently, you had to have the same maker's sending unit to match up with the gauge. I don't recall there being a difference between engines, but I could be wrong.
You could call a dealer parts department and ask if there is more than one part number and if it distinquishes between V-6 and 4 cylinder.

According to AutoZoo and Advance, the part numbers are the same.

According to AutoZoo and Advance, the part numbers are the same. Toyota lists 2 part numbers for the 22RE oil pressure sender, not counting the oil pressure switch. I've had issues when using different types of oil pressure senders...

I've had issues when using different types of oil pressure senders... That's b/c there are 2 different gauges. Well, one isn't a "guage" really... The SR5 models use a real gauge, this has an analog sender. Meanwhile, non-SR5 trucks don't have the guage, they just have an idiot light - the sender is different b/c it basically just trips when "low". From what I udnerstand, if you use the dummy-light sender on a gauge, it will kill it. No personal proof of this though. This is a common mistake when guys swap the basic gauge cluster for the SR5 style.

Actually Brian is right in there being two different mechanical oil gauges. Denso sourced one while Yazaki sourced the other. They aren't inter-compatible either, so one has to research what they have and then match the sender/switch appropriately.

Yes, it is interesting, that the light sender lead (yellow/black) has a normal push-on connector, while the lead for the gauge sender (yellow/red) has a "cutout" on the connector's side that slides on. This helps keep them seperate (seperate for a reason).

Does anybody know the part numbers for the two different gauge senders or how to tell which one you need? I recently did the SR5 cluster swap on my 88 (4 cyl) and got a sender from Toyota. Oil Pressure gauge doesn't work. I remember there being a Nippondenso sender and the Yazaki. I think I got the denso, but now don't remember.

I have a 1988 22R pickup. I put in a 1987 4Runner 4 cylinder SR5 cluster in the pickup. It was a Yazaki cluster. I bought this sender from Kragens and the oil pressure gauge worked fine. ![[Linked Image]](http://usera.imagecave.com/ToolPants/Toyota/sendermyebayclusterin5.JPG)
