My vote goes to a well engineered and executed axle swap.

Cool! Where can I buy that?

I'm wondering if, for say my 93 Trooper, a guy could put all the IFS hardware from a later model Trooper (longer A-arms, longer CVs, some of the steering as needed...longer brake lines maybe) on there and get more travel...not seriously considering it, but wondering. I would think it would bolt up without too much fuss, but I could be wrong. I know you SAS guys shudder at spending money on an IFS, but if the donor vehicle/parts can be had for the right price, it seems feasible and reasonable to try it.

I'm all for a unique set up. Everyone doing everything the same way gets boring. for me, it's a cost/benefit equation, with the PITA variable thrown in there If I could have just bolted on a stronger, longer travel IFS sytsem, I probably would have done that. but instead I found a deal an a d44 and I have some good friends with welders

This actually brings up an interesting idea...I know that the SAS guys will disown me for sure for even thinking this but I've thought about the possibility of torching off all of the Isuzu IFS components and then welding on mounts and such for a Toyota based Total Chaos long-arm IFS system (off of a Pickup or Tacoma) and then also swapping in a IFS axle off the same vehicle and using the proper CV's to retain the 4x4. My reason for doing this would be to turn my Zu into a prerunner type vehicle with the ability of blasting through the desert at relative high rates of speed without jarring my teeth lose ( not that my Luv is capable of terribly "high" speeds as it sits now but thats a different thread all together) I guess this insane idea would kinda-sorta-maybe-a-wild-chance-on-a-cold-day-in-hell fall under the same category as what is being presented here. If it isn't then ya'll can ban me for being an idiot and a disgrace to the Zu way of life

What engine are you swapping into a Luv to make that happen?

Jerry Lemond was kind enough to check some part numbers, and for my 93 Trooper, I could upgrade the IFS somewhat with relatively small effort. I just need:

95+ Upper control arm (reuse upper ball joint)
95+ Longer tie rod adjusters (ends are the same)
95+ lower ball joint (reuse lower control arm)
95-only drive axles (96+ were SOTF)

Note that this applies to 92-94 Troopers.

Not sure if it is worth doing on its own, but in conjunction with installing diff drop brackets, why not?

Either a 3.2/3.5 DOHC or a GM 4.3, haven't decided if I want to keep this think mostly Zu or not.

And so we don't go off topic, I'm wondering if the same parts and/or similar parts would also work on a 91-97 Rodeo or even a 89-94 Amigo to the same effect. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Oops didn't see that there. Thanks for the info though. I would imagine that the same setup could also be used on a Pup as they had the same basic design as the Amigo and Rodeo.
