Pictures from a 2004 Rodeo: http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB68&Number=908976Dang it. Pictures no workee any more. You mean the way stuff mounts into the rail, or you mean if you remove the rails and use the holes that enter into the roof.

Redd: Are you looking for a picture, or dimensional placement/locations info for those holes? I can take and send a picture, but could also attempt to measure and give you dimensions. (I'm guessing you want to remove the stock rack rails & cross-bars, and see if you can reuse it's mounting holes to mount an aftermarket rack, true?)
Let me know,
Tom

yup, i am wanting to totally replace with a new safari style rack i will build, but i am doing this to add stength for my boat and plywood, etc. i assume that it would be stronger if out of steel than plastic, eh?
so yeah, any help if you have it would be appreciated. i heard its a PITA to take off and replace the factory rack so if it ain't gonna work, i'd like to know in advance if possible.
so i guess yes to both your answers, a photo to know what i am dealing with and specs to aid in the design of the rack.
cheers

I had to remove the rear half of both rails to slide in the cross members. It wasn't bad at all.
Pop the plastic cover (since I wanted to keep it, not damaging this piece was the hardest part!)
Remove 2 bolts. (If you want to slide a rail end, you remove the endcap with one torx screw) Repeat other side. Repeat for front.
Even with a new rack, your limit will be how much weight your roof can take. Although if you haul a canoe, you have to worry more about upward force, not downward force (weight).

any idea of how much weight the roof can handle?
i figure the rack will be in the 40 lb range, my boat is pushing 75.
i have had 8 sheets of drywall on it - that was heavy...

our roofs are rated at 200 lbs. More than that and you are a test pilot. Im sure it will probbably hold more but that was the factory number.
Also the stock mounting holes can be found on the inside as well if you just need measurements to start. You would have to remove the head liner. Which yo will probably need to do anyways for your rack.

200 lbs thats it?
so how can a rig stay on its top with a rollover and not instantly crumple? or why when i was sitting on my roof didn't the truck pooch? i guess it would put strain on other things, like glass.... i know i have a crack in my windscreen and once with a heavy load and a bump it got bigger in front of my eyes....
jeez- i was hoping to be able to atleast be able to stand on my rack, but i am 250 lbs + 50 lb rack = ??????????

200 lbs thats it? I'm sure well spread that it would handle double that. Is Isuzu going to tell you that you can do that..... Joe
