Looks good,one idea though.

From experience you will catch libs and branches in the basket.
I would wrap the front and around to the end of the 45's with something,to keep branches out of and from underneath the rack.

There can be enough force to bend or brake something if an 1" or 1 1/2" limb gets caught.

never thought about that - makes total sense.

do you figure if the 45's had a "band" wrapped in the middle it would be enough? (i am thinking the 1 1/2" flat steel here cause i have it)

not the sides? i wonder if i should put a band the whole way down the side in the middle...

Never had a problem with the sides, branches are normally bent by then and slid along it.

If you put just a band it will still allow stuff to get caught in whatever opening is left, just a thought.

yeah i thought about that, but the opening would only be a 1/4 inch at the top and bottom, anythig that big should just snap off...

...not bad for my very first welding project!!!

Yeah, I would agree with you. For your first welding project that looks fantastic! Good job bro. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Could you explain why the 45*s on one end are bigger than the other? Is that perhaps where the lights will be positioned?
Which end is the front?

Again quality work.

well, the bigger 45's are the front.

i was gonna make them the same as the rear, but i really didn;t like the way the rear turned out (with 2x 22.5). so i just made 45's in the front.

i may try to stuff lights in the 45s in the front, to shoot sideways
also, there will be reverse ights in the corners of the rear.

and thanks! its been a lot more work than i thought it would be. i will build the fairing this afternoon. i need to go get beer though (come on - supplies right!!)

so i have gotten to do a fair amount, i got thye canoe bars done, the front wind fairing done, and the light bar done.

i still need to make little things like tabs and gussets, but its getting there. then comes paint prep and painting... :?

the wind fairing makes a HUGE difference in sound - no more "i have a wolverine on my roof" like before.....

lights to come with tax return i think

everyone loves pics, they kind of suck but you'll get the picture

That's a pretty cool wind fairing.
It would be cool to see a 'looking down from above' shot of it, and how it mounts to the rack... thinking of something like that for my Con-fer.

So are you going to have it powdercoated or painted?
I kinda like it silver like ya got it now...

keep us posted
