Getting the Wheeling Fever
Both of the fuel lines rotted off of my sending unit. Is there a quick fix for this or is it absolutely necessary to replace the sending unit?

Thanks in advance.

Fuel lines don't go to the sending unit. The sending unit is entirely electrical.

Do you mean the pump? Like, the two elbows on top of the plate of the pump hanger?

If so, you can either replace it or have someone braze on some new elbows for you. It is up to you to determine what needs to be done.

Michael

Getting the Wheeling Fever
alright...here's what i did

I cut a square "hatch" in the floor to access the fuel pump but only on three sides so I just bent the floor up so I can then just bend the floor back down and tack it for easy access again.

Once I gained access to the fuel pump all of the screws were rusty and the first one I attempted broke the head off. This ended screw removal time immediately. Then, I broke the pipes off entirely as they were rotted and i cleaned them up as close as i could to the top of the fuel pump bracket. I got 5/32 and 7/32 brass tubing (closest to 15/64 I could get) and they fit in the hole very nicely. I took 1/4 and 5/16 brake line respectively and they slipped over the brass lines nicely. I have the brass pipe running straight out of the fuel pump and the brake lines bent at 90 degrees and I soldered the two together nicely. I cleaned the top of the pump with a wire brush and the pipes with emery clother and I used JB weld to secure them to the tank which looks pretty nice and should work well. I kept the double flare on the end of the brake lines for the connection to the rubber hoses . Hopefully this will work out fine and isn't too bad of a fix for around $8.

On a similar note...when cutting the floor out of your vehicle make sure there are no wires underneath where you are cutting
