I have 95SR rear axle with air locker I am putting in my gen1 LWB. No pics yet, I will put some when I am finished tomorrow. I am working in a field, that is all I have. Today I put the rear on jack stands, took off the tires. I unbolted the shocks, pan. bar, drive shaft, brake line, but left the main arm nuts. My axle has the complete e brake cables so I am taking off my old ones, I just need to bend a couple clamps. Also took off diff breather. Tomorrow I plan to unbolt the arms and pull out the whole axle and bolt up the new one. And pull the flange off of the 95 drive shaft and put it on the old one. I cant wait to have disc brakes in the rear. I still have not decided if I am going to get wheel spacers to put up front. I need to see how it is without first. I am not hooking up the mini compressor yet. Maybe next weekend. I also have 95 SR rear coils from a different truck. I am going to have a nice firm suspension with the gen2 sway a way torsion bars and gen2 rear coils. I cant wait.

Also just thinking about keeping my 93 and using it as a daily driver and put some 33s or 35s under the gen1.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Body Damage is Cool
Coolness, looking forward to the pix Sparky. What's the measured difference in track width between the front and rear? Good luck and stay warm!

Before you get too far into it, pull off the rear axle and test fit it against the mating flange on the new axle.

Seriously... put all 4 bolts in and make sure it'll work.

Are you talking about the drive shaft flange? I have the shaft from the 95 and plan to just swap the flange from the 95 shaft to the current 91 shaft.

Oh, buddy. I have so been down that road.

I hope you have another car to drive.

I THINK you need to put the Gen 1 Pinion yoke onto the Gen 2 Axle.

That would be correct, but you need the flange splines re-cut to match the new pinion.

Search for my swap. All the painful details are there. I had to have a hybrid driveshaft made from a GenII bottom yoke and my original GenI shaft.

With my Montero Sport axle My Gen 1 pinion flange actually fit onto the MS axle, and I COULD Have used that.

I'm a totally different story now though. I run 1310's everywhere.

I do have another Montero to drive. I will let you know how it goes. I think Monty90 said he just swaped the flange onto his gen1 drive shaft. If not, I am just going to redrill the pinion flange to match the gen1 shaft.

Are you saying 100% that the 95sr drive shaft flange wont fit on the gen1 shaft U joint?

No, I'm not.

I'm saying that my one experience didn't go the way I had hoped and I suspect that my experience will be the norm for all who do this mod.

If that's not the way it goes down for you, that's great But I thoughtyou should be aware of the potential for fitment issues at the earliest point possible. Helps to keep from throwing tools
