It's such an easy swap if everything bolts up the way it's supposed to. If it works for you without driveline work, we should probably start wirking to figure out what was different between the two trucks that made it work.

52 thanks. I did think a lot about things before I started. I have another truck to drive and the place where the swap is taking place, the truck can sit for weeks if need be. Im off to hopefully finish in a few hours.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Sweet you will love the locker. I did this swap a month ago. The U-joints are not the same size you can not put the gen2 shaft plate on the gen 1. The pinnion shafts have different splines also so you can not swap pinnion plates. I tried drilling holes in the pinnion plate, it might work if you machine a pilot bushing. I did not and that did not work.
The good news, In the end I did the same as 52degrees. A local drive line shop made me a new shaft out of the two old ones. They had a hard time, they had never built one with that size yoke. They had to machine some of there own tools to do it. But they did a great job and stuck with there original price, around $100.
Good luck it is great to have a locker.
The track width difference is hardly noticable and that is on a swb. I bet on you lwb you wont care. and can only tell if you are looking for the difference.

I have a set of 15x12 wheels that I keep thinking I should use to take a really exaggerated offset pic to post here. Something like having the rear look like a 2 foot difference but say it's hardly noticeable.
Maybe another time.

Can it be a good thing to have a less trac width in the front? Becuase then the rears would be biting fresh terrain? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
I've seen Unimogs and Pinzs' with directional tires mounted backwards on the rear for this purpose.

I am 99% done. I am stuck on one part, just need the bolts. I bolted the axle in, the shocks, the panhard bar, rims and tires. The e brake cables were the same length and size and fit right where the old ones went. I put in the gen2 coils too. It sits under its own power now. I am not going to get spacers in the front. You cant tell unless you are looking for it. The gen2 front rims sit in compared to the rear too, stock. I reused the arm bushings, the 95s were different.
The 1% that is not done. I need to bleed the brakes and bolt up the shaft. About the shaft. 1 thing I did not think of is, the 95 drive shaft bolts are bigger than the gen1. I may pull 4 from my Toyota until I can get some new ones. I used the U-joint and flange from the 95 and put the U-joint into the gen1 shaft. The caps were the same diameter, very small height difference. I can get some comparo pics of the ujoints at a later date. Also need to fill diff with new oil.
I have some pics. I need to resize them and upload them. Pics in a little while.
I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Looks good! Keep up the good work! Those pics, the front was jacked up to change the tires. The gen2 rear springs gave me some rear lift. The rear is a little higher than the front. Will do. I was inspired by the Thailand Pajero Club site I have been roaming around. I was thinking about selling the axle, but na. I need to get me some air line, line was cut. I need to find a place to mount the tiny pump. And need to wire up the switch. I am going to put the DON bumper back on and winch. I need some sliders and beefed up skids.
