I havea 91 Trooper 2.8L 5Spd, the tranny is dead (we rebuilt about 40K miles ago) I dont have a bunch of money. What are my options? I want this as a trail rig, I am a photographer and I bought to do mild/moderate trail riding.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Get tough, take the tranny down from the truck, and try to see what is wrong with it. Get your hands dirty and take it apart...it may be very obvious what is wrong with it.

I am in the Seattle, WA area. I think I might just go with a TH350 conversion.

You might do a search on Gundies wrecking yard in Bellingham. They usually have several first generation Troopers.

Body Damage is Cool
Keep searching the Seattle Craigslist, there's been all kinds of Troopers on there lately, including a real nice, clean straight V6 Troop that wouldn't start, for $400. A wrecking yard would probably charge you more than that for just a tranny.

Also note recent discussions here regarding converting a 4-cyl 4WD tranny for V6 use; a bit more work but if you picked up one cheap.............

x2

These are tough trannies. Most people never have to have them rebuilt. So for you to have to rebuild yours, and then have it out again 40k miles later... what are you doing to the poor thing? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
