Well, whats the price? If the price is right and you have the skills/time/tools/new engine then yes. If the price is wrong or you don't have one of those things then no.

The 22RE's are a lot easier to come by; if the truck is a 3.0, then I hope you're getting it REALLY cheap.

In nh, you can get a running '94 for 1500. Sure, it won't be prestine, but it would run.. may need some minor work or have some rust spots. A perfect '94 would probably be about 3500. So add in the cost of a new engine + the buying price and judge off that I guess. If the rest of the truck is nice, and you like projects, I'd do it even if it saves you only a couple hundred dollars... but thats me because I like projects. If the trucks not nice, then I'd look for a running not nice one for the same price.

only if it is really cheap. If it is 22re maybe pay a little more. Gas isnt getting cheaper, the v6 drinks more than my pop's v8 tundra

Depends on where the truck is from. If it's a clean and totally rust and accident-free California (or Texas, or Arizona, or Florida) truck you could pay as much as $2000 and still be getting a deal. Especially if it's an SR5 model. -- Matt

Its in Illinois (East moline) where I live its got some rust and its not an SR5 its a 5spd 4x4 ext. cab its looks kinda used and abused but I believe its a 22RE ill find out today! i don't plan on spending much more than 1500 on it as is. so I can put 1500 or more in the engine either a rebuilt or if possible rebuild the one thats in it. I will hopefully get to look at it today. as when I saw it it looked like a snow drift but the weather is trashy so I hope the bank is open.

Where on the web could I find new or used toyota engines ?

With a "Fair" condition rating Kelly Blue Book shows a "Private Party" price of $3700 for a DX Xtra Cab with 100k miles. If you buy a rebuilt long block engine from one of the major rebuilders expect to pay about $1800. That's not including installation labor and miscellaneous other bits like hoses, belts, oil, antifreeze, ect. The 22RE is not a bad engine to work work on and parts are relatively inexpensive in the aftermarket. If you have the skills & tools you might want to save some $$$ and do it yourself. A lot of people on this forum like to buy pistons, heads, ect. from Engnbldr.com. You might take a quick look at that website and see if it inspires you to do your own engine rebuild. Factory service manuals are a great tool to have if you do any repairs yourself and are often on eBay for about $35.

car-part.com has an online search engine for used parts by area. -- Matt

My buddy just got $5500.00 for his 94 4x4 xcab.It was a V6 auto and EXTRA clean. He did take the stereo and speakers and some other things out before he sold.I would get it if it was a clean 4 cyl.
