With a "Fair" condition rating Kelly Blue Book shows a "Private Party" price of $3700 for a DX Xtra Cab with 100k miles. If you buy a rebuilt long block engine from one of the major rebuilders expect to pay about $1800. That's not including installation labor and miscellaneous other bits like hoses, belts, oil, antifreeze, ect. The 22RE is not a bad engine to work work on and parts are relatively inexpensive in the aftermarket. If you have the skills & tools you might want to save some $$$ and do it yourself. A lot of people on this forum like to buy pistons, heads, ect. from Engnbldr.com. You might take a quick look at that website and see if it inspires you to do your own engine rebuild. Factory service manuals are a great tool to have if you do any repairs yourself and are often on eBay for about $35.
