Here is the newest dilemma. I got the head off and found my 2 low compression cylinders intake full of carbon which should be why it was spitting fuel back up through the carb at around 3000RPM. The intake valves must have not been closing all the way to let this happen. I got an inside mic from work and my friend and i took several seperate readings. We got between 3.609 - 3.611. We measured at the bottom of the cyl (as far down as i could reach), mid way down, and about 1/16 of an inch from the top where the piston stopped and got mostly 3.611 most of the time. I also measured in both directions and it doesnt seem out of round at all. the haynes manual says stock cyl bore should be 3.59 and i have 3.611, dif .021. I do see some slight cross hatching left in the cylinders and found out someone already did the BSE kit. Where should i go from here guys? Rebuild or just put the new clearwater (mech valve) head on?

Did a ridge form at the tops of the cylinders? That scoring/ scratching from the rings and out of round would be the only concerns to have in a block. I'd say clean it up real good and bolt the new/ refinished head on.

The only ridge that was there was from carbon and it was very thin. I carefully scraped it away to make sure it wasnt a metal ridge.

Any more opinions on how far I should go with this or should I just put it all back together like Jimbotsi said to do? I value your guys opinions I would just like some sort of consensus. Also the pistons that are in there say 50mm on top.

Your apparent mid-day post should be given a little time for the other FOrum member to read and reply. Remember 'haste makes waste' as this could apply to your time and $$.

IF your measurements are good enough, and there's no wear on the thrust side.... No I just can't do it.
If a machine shop with a bore gauge says it's ok, I'd do it. If ALL the honing pattern is still visible, I'd do it. Otherwise, no...

std bore= 3.5875 normal clearance is .001-.0015, you need to mic the pistons also. the 2.6 cylinders do not wear much, but you have to decide if you will re-ring or not.. perhaps try a hone and see when it cleans up. the most wear is at the top. thats when compression is highest and the most pressure is on the rings.
