You can do it without dropping the transmission in the rear. You just need a swivel (not universal) extension.

Need a Spot
Thanks to everyone for the help. The new engine is in and everything seems to be running fine.
It ended up taking me two and a half days to get everthing done -- would have been three or four days without the online FSM. It also helps having a small co-worker who can reach the bolts on the top of the bell housing without unbolting the transfer case cross member! I forgot the memory card for the camera, so I apologize there are no pictures.
