My husband has a 88 Jeep Comanche that has over 300,000 miles on it. We recently had the entire clutch assembly replaced. Afterwards we started to experience problems with the alternator not charging the battery. We have a brand new battery, the alternator tests out okay and they are saying it is a ground wire problem but they can't seem to find it. Any ideas, thoughts, advice on how to fix this so the alternator will charge????? We would appreciate anything that you could do!

Start by taking all the ground wires off and cleaning under them and then reinstalling! I do mean ALL of them. Big JIm <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" />

I was thinking it sounds like a bad ground wire too, ie one from an engine to chassis, like around the bell housing which you just removed to change the clutch.....

yeah I think you have to check for some poor grounding or loose connection. then try to re-install your Jeep clutch. hope it helps.

WV...sometimes the problem can be attributed to the actual harness wires that connects to the alternator itself. This is a common problem with older Saturns.
The alternator also needs to put out at least 60% of it's peak Amp rating. For instanse, a 100Amp alternator needs to be making at least 60 Amps to sufficiently charge the battery.
