I just wanted to check and see if anyone ever had a Toyota dealer do their head gaskets (3VZE), or knows anyone who has. What did it cost and was it worth it? Don't have time to do mine at the moment and it kills me to have the truck sitting in the garage...........

Thanks.

Body Damage is Cool
My buddy had his '94 done at the dealer at 100K miles. 'bout 4 years ago though. Didn't cost anything, (the recall thing) until they convinced him to let them do the Timing Belt, tension pulley, etc at the same time. Turned out to be about $200 after all that. No probs ever, TBelt was due anyways. A great deal I'd say. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Just ask them. They look the labor up in one of many different books, depending on how they want to mark it up. They should be able to give you an estimate of what it will cost. If it's under $1000, it'd suprise me.

Book labor has nothing to do with actual labor.. There is a whole incentive program built around this to keep the mechanics working.... I generally prefer independents who specialize myself..

Have you personally changed a timing belt and know first hand the labor in it?

I've done a number of them, tired of doing it, and finally decided it was worth price to pay to let somebody else do it.. It is not a quick job.

$1,968 is my quote from the dealer. That includes getting the heads done and replacing the Timing belt. I guess since there out I should send in the injectors to get them redone?

Don't pay $2k. That's nutty.. Typical, but nutty.
Unless your truck was running poorly, has eaten fuel filters, or has crap in the tank, I'm not sure that I'd do injectors as a matter of course. If you want get them done, send them to witchhunter.com - he'll do them for $15 each, including new rubber. That's clean and flow test.

Agree; that price is too high. I paid $1200 including brand new head bolts @ $15/each. If it's apart, might just as well do the injectors, especially if it's a higher mileage engine.

I agree it's high, but the truck is in excellent condition to not get it fixed. I refuse to just pick someone out of the phone book. I got ripped off before when having A/C work done by a mom and pop shop. At least with the dealer I can go back and create a huge stink if something doesn;t go right. As stated before, I don't have the time to do it and want to get it running 100% again.
