I recently rebuilt my 94 3.0 Pickup due to overheating, but I'm now wondering If Im hurting or helping matters by what I did. I took the guts out of the 165 degree thermostat, thinking now it will never go bad nor will the motor see harsh temps!! Yes, it takes longer to heat-up, but I have noticed excessive fuel-consumption and was told that by running the thermostat wide-open doesn't let the computer adjust correctly always shooting fuel till it reaches a certain temperature. Any thoughts???

Yes, excessive fuel consumption is common with no t-stat on an EFI engine. ECU is trying to get the engine up to proper operating temps by richening up the fuel/air mix. Run the proper temp. t-stat and fix whatever other cooling system issues you aree masking by not running a t-stat.
