1991 Isuzu Trooper 2.8L
I'm having problems with my temperature sensor for the engine. I grounded out the connector for it and the gauge worked so I determined that the sensor itself was bad. I replaced it and it still does not work. I took a jumper wire with alligator clips on each end and clipped one end on the wire from the gauge and the other end onto the sensor and it moved a little bit. I assumed that was just because it had been sitting for a while and had cooled down considerably. I doubted the connection so I changed the connector. The gauge still does not show any change after the engine is obviously warmed up. Any helpful hints or tips on this?
Thank you in advance.

Do you own a volt/ohm meter? The sensor should chnage resistance as the truck warms up. Take the sensor you know works and touch one end to the contact and the other end touch to a known ground or the engine itself and measure the resistance (ohms). It should change between when the engine is cold and hot. If it does you know the sensor is ok and the problem is in the wiring or the guage itself.
These guages use a heated coiled strip of some type of metal and moves the pointer based on how hot/how much current it gets. They are going to move very very slowly just fyi.

Did you use a sealant or teflon tape on the sender?

Does your heater blow hot air? I thought I had an electrical problem or a sender problem and it ended up being a stuck open T-stat.
Use only Isuzu t-stats.

I used a Stant Superstant without problems.
Be sure you get a 190F-195F thermostat as this is the correct one for a V6, and anything cooler probably won't even cause the temp gage to go upscale.
The temp gages in GM-V6-Powered Troops typically read low anyway, normal range is usually around 1/4 to 1/3, if it's up around halfway you know things are getting toasty!

I used anti-seize on the threads and it does work but you have to let it run for a very long time. It does have a change when you put it on a multimeter. I can only get the gauge to move maybe an 1/8".

Also, the trooper does blow hot air. Cold...yeah, we'll talk about that later.
