Yup, I swapped a 2wd 8" into mine so I could use the 3rd's from a 4wd.
Since then I've converted to 4wd.
I still have that axle though. Has 4.10's in it now.
Now that I think about it, I changed it to a spring-over perch setup, so some finagling with the e-brake cables would be necessary.
IIRC, the 4wd axles are not the same width as the 2wd 8" axles so swapping the axle shafts may not work to maintain the 5 lug pattern.
I haven't measured the axles themselves, but I have one of each and can do that if you'd like.
